Trees

For several years I have been painting trees and water at different times of the year, changes in weather and hour of the day. Rendered observations intersect with invention and abstraction. Segments of a painting may be a realistic representation of details of form and texture, and at the same time serve as part of a pattern of abstract color shapes. Illusions of reflections on water, leaves, shadows on the grass, bark on trees, and landscape space are interrupted by painterly gestures or patches of color or open areas of white canvas. Value shifts intensified by imagined color relationships create shifting sources of light.
