Mountains, Skies, Lakes, Trees

My images of flowers, grasses and leaves are close up investigations of nature, while my paintings of skies, mountains, trees and water are celebrations of the light and energy of the broader landscape. I began the cloud paintings after seeing an extraordinary exhibition of John Constable’s famous series. Reflecting the clouds in water intensified the effects, energy and rhythm of the patterns and gestures of the clouds. I have observed and responded to trees and mountains as places, shapes and gestures in my art for a long time, a practice which has been influenced by my study of traditional Chinese and Japanese ink paintings as well as Cezanne
